Be a part of history May 24th

The 9th Annual C3 Kinetico Kids of Steel Triathlon

Join Olympic Triathlon Coach Barrie Shepley and 1000+ others at the biggest youth triathlon/running day in Canadian history. The 9th Annual C3 Kinetico Kids of Steel Triathlon was started to honour Simon Whitfield’s Sydney Gold Medal Win. Each year 800+ kids and adults participate in the mini-triathlons, 2k and 5k runs. “If your looking for a great environment, where there are 3-4 year olds doing their first triathlon and 75 year old adults running a 5k, then this is your event” said Barrie Shepley. Elite athletes from the national team will be in attendance all day helping motivate families to get active and stay active. “The kids 2k and family 5k runs are designed to let anyone participate” said Shepley. In addition the many mini-triathlons (all take place in a pool) are designed to let anyone experience a fun-short-triathlon. “People of any age (kids to adults) can do the triathlon event as a 3 person relay team (one swimmer-one-biker-one-runner) or do it individually” said Barrie Shepley. All distances are very modest in length to make successfully finishing the triathlon the priority. Running Free will be the exclusive retail partner with C3 on the May 24th event. “Running Free has built a tremendous reputation in running, triathlon and multi-sport events” said Olympic Coach Barrie Shepley. “C3 and the Kinetico are very pleased to be partners in what will become the biggest youth triathlon in Canadian History” said Shepley. You can register for the 2k, 5k or mini-triathlon by going on-line at www.c3online.ca

Welcome to Why Just Run? Toronto's newest race series!

This is not your mother's road race anymore - this is adventure running! This series will visit a different type of terrain, from the Toronto Islands to urban city parks to a university campus.

Instead of just running a preset course on the roads or trails, we will give you a detailed topographical map with control locations identified. We tell you where you need to go, but you get to decide the best way to get there! We will give you an electronic timing chip to let us know when you get to each control. Don’t worry if you are not familiar with reading maps or using a compass, we have a course that is right for you.

    Registration is now open
  • Why Just Run The Islands – June 6, 2009
  • Why Just Run The Parks – July 18, 2009
  • Why Just Run The Campus – August 22, 2009

    Giant's Rib Raid - April 11, 2009

    Salomon DontGetLost.ca Adventure Running Series

25K & 10K adventure runs for teams of 3 "The Niagara Escarpment (aka the Giant's Rib) was a formidable physical barrier to early explorers in southern Ontario. Steep cliffs, rocky ground, and large creeks also made navigation difficult for these adventurers. The Salomon Giant's Rib Raid takes place adjacent to one of southern Ontario's largest (and rockiest) forests on the edge of the Niagara Escarpment. Teams can expect lots of technical running and navigation as they Raid the Rib."

    Awards
Awards will be given to the top 3 teams in all categories. Lots of draw prizes from Salomon and our other sponsors.

    Location
Rocky Ridge Ranch (Milton, Ontario). Click here to visit their web site.

    NEW Multisport Canada Running Series

MultiSport Canada Running Series is expanding and now offers three distances in two great locations. Our goal is to enhance the race experience for all of our participants. With our Women's 10K and Half Marathon on the Toronto Island and Women's 5K in Wasaga Beach we believe we have created three unique events to support the growing number of female runners and we are proud to present this opportunity for women to run in a race they can call their own. The fastest growing triathlon series in Canada, MultiSport Canada has been actively promoting the sport of Triathlon and Duathlon for over seven years. Join us on August 15th for the first annual Toronto Island Women’s 10K and on September 19th for our women’s half marathon on the Toronto Island. Wasaga Beach hosts our half marathon open to all and a Women’s 5K on Sunday, September 13th.

The MultiSport Canada Running Series is proud to announce a new partnership with the Look Good, Feel Better Foundation, Canada's only charitable cancer program dedicated to empowering women to manage the appearance-related effects of cancer and its treatment. Look Good Feel Better believes that an improved self-image can help lift women's spirits and nurture hope, helping them face their illness with greater confidence. Launched by the Canadian Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association, the program has helped over 90,000 women since it’s inception in 1992. The benefits of the program go well beyond beauty.

Our run series participants are encouraged to raise funds and awareness for this unique campaign. The relationship with Look Good, Feel Better and the CCTFA means really cool swag for our runners kits. Also, by registering for one of the women’s only series races by June 1st you will be entered in a draw to win one of five fantastic swag bags worth $250, compliments of the Canadian Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association. Don’t miss your chance to win, register today! Visit our charity page for more information and a link to LGFB.

Just announced! Walkers will have their own start time and separate results at the Toronto Island Women’s 10K and Half Marathon as well as the Wasaga Beach Half Marathon.

Salomon Snowshoe RAID - Saturday February 21st 2009

    Presented by Fox River Socks

NEW FOR 2009! In addition to the increasingly popular 3hr Snowshoe Raid both 5k and 10k marked snowshoe races have been added to the schedule. The marked courses were added to cater to participants still looking for a great day out in the snow and hills, but for those who might not be ready for the; navigational, team, or time commitments of the full 3hr Raid. The goal is to introduce as many people as possible to navigation based sports, in the hope that competitors participating on the marked courses might hang around and try a sampling of the full 3hr SNOWSHOE RAID course.

3-HR SALOMON SNOWSHOE RAID: The 3hr Raid is a team based snowshoe race combined with navigation by map and compass. Competitors will travel off-trail to checkpoints located throughout the stunning Copeland Forest in Horseshoe Valley. You can go as hard, or as easy as you like, however the more checkpoints you collect the higher you'll rank. Teams of Two will have up to 3-hours to collect as many checkpoints as possible.

5K & 10K SNOWSHOE RAIDS: The 5K & 10K Raids are open to soloists, and will follow marked routes through the powder strewn hills and valleys near Horseshoe Resort. Although the routes will be marked, competitors should expect to traverse numerous steep hills, valleys & riverside trails.

4th Annual Dr. Jay Hit and Run Golf Classic - June 15th 2009

If you are looking for a fun filled event for your next athletic challenge then look no further than Hit and Run Golf. This latest multi-sport phenomenon combines speed, endurance and skill. The concept of the game is to shoot the lowest golf score in the fastest time possible. Your total score is the number of shots taken plus the time in minutes to play. Last year’s event winner shot an amazing 83 in just 65 minutes for a total score of 148, but you don’t have to be a great golfer or amazing runner to have fun.

This year’s event will be held at Angus Glen Golf and Country Club, one of Canada's top golf courses, on Monday June 15th, 2009. The recipient of the funds raised will once again be the Dr. Jay Foundation, which funds the Dr. Jay Grief Counseling Program. This is the only program in Canada where specifically trained palliative care therapists work with dying children and kids who are about to lose a parent and help the kids and families deal with the tragedy of death. To learn more about the Foundation and Grief Program please go to www.drjayfoundation.com.

This year there will be TWO EVENTS going on simultaneously:
The Lone Runner Event where each participant plays by himself/herself, carries up to 6 clubs and starts with only 6 golf balls,

    AND

The Tandem Golf Event with teams of 2 competing. Players will alternate with their partner between playing one hole and riding in a golf cart the next.

    AN ADDED BONUS
ALL REGISTRANTS WILL RECEIVE A 2 FOR 1 COUPON FOR A ROUND OF GOLF INCLUDING CART AT ANGUS GLEN TO BE USED EITHER FROM APRIL 15-MAY 8, 2009 OR FROM OCTOBER 14 TO THE END OF THE 2009 GOLF SEASON

Toronto Santa Speedo Run 2008 - Saturday December 13

With the weather turning cold(er), and all the festive adornments going up (though they've really been up since the day after Halloween), naturally one's thoughts turn to...horrifying images of pasty people in nothing but Speedos.

Yes, it's time again for for the Toronto Santa Speedo Run. In the three years since I started this idiocy we've managed to raise almost $70,000 for the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children, we've appeared in newspaper, radio, television and magazine (my dream of appearing in Sports Illustrated fulfilled, though not exactly as I planned), offended hundreds and thrilled thousands...ish.

For those of you new to this thing, here's the lowdown: 100% of the funds are used for the Toys and Games fund at the hospital, to help make the stay of Toronto's bravest patients a little easier. The event is a fun run through the streets of Yorkville on December 13, 2008, and the key difference between this and other runs (besides that fact it starts in a bar) is what we wear (or don't): all participants run in only running shoes, Speedo bathing suits and strategically-placed adornments.

Who wouldn't want to be associated with this (please, lower your hands)? Regardless, I'd love for you to be part of the mirth and jocularity so join us at the bar at Hemingways Restaurant in Yorkville around the 1PM to have a pint and cheer us on. Alternatively (or additionally), it would be great to have a contribution online. Secure on line donations can be made with VISA, MasterCard or American Express and an electronic tax receipt will be sent to you by email.

You can Click Here to make an online donation now.

To learn more about the event, go to www.torontosantaspeedorun.com where you can get all the gory details, see photos from past years and even see video of our appearance last year on Breakfast Television.

    Thanks for the support.
